This business operates as a corporate advisory firm and significant shareholder in ASX-listed small to mid-cap companies, in a style similar to private equity or investment banking: raising capital, structuring deals and taking meaningful stakes in businesses across Australia, Asia and the US.
Separately, the Principals also own and directly operate a portfolio of businesses in their own right. The Principals want someone to take direct ownership of reporting across the group, with real scope to shape how the finance function grows from here.
Key highlights include:
Direct exposure to the Principals driving both the advisory business and the operating portfolio, not several layers removed from decision-making
A genuinely varied remit, not one narrow corporate structure
Real scope to shape and build out the finance function as the group grows
This is a genuinely broad, hands-on role. You will personally manage core accounting and bookkeeping across the group, while also stepping up as the senior finance voice on cash flow, budgeting and commercial decisions. You will report to a Partner and work closely with the wider ownership group.
Own the monthly close and produce management accounts for each business, plus consolidated group reporting
Personally manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and intercompany transactions
Maintain clean ledgers, fixed asset registers and accurate month-end adjustments across all entities
Run group-wide cash flow forecasting and monitor liquidity, funding and banking relationships
Lead the annual budgeting process and maintain rolling forecasts throughout the year
Act as the senior financial adviser on pricing, profitability and new business opportunities
Support acquisitions, investments and other corporate transactions, including due diligence
Coordinate BAS, GST and tax obligations with external advisers across Australia and Asia
Oversee payroll processing, reconciliations and superannuation and payroll tax compliance
Build the systems, controls and processes the finance function needs as it scales
This suits someone who has built real depth in transactional accounting and is just as comfortable stepping up into commercial and strategic finance. You are confident enough to work directly with business owners, and motivated by genuine ownership rather than a narrow, siloed role.
Hands-on experience across payroll, AP/AR, reconciliations and month-end, not purely oversight
Advanced working knowledge of Xero
Background from a family office, PE-backed multi-entity business
Experience with intercompany accounting, consolidations and multiple legal entities
Strong Excel and financial modelling skills
Comfortable moving between detailed bookkeeping and higher-level commercial analysis
Proactive and confident enough to challenge management constructively
CA or CPA qualified (highly regarded)
Exposure to international or cross-border accounting (highly regarded)
