Hands-on finance leadership role

Company Background

Our client is a home‑grown technology team with regional test facilities that combines expertise in vehicle design and production. Their mission is to develop safe transport solutions to alleviate congestion, expand where people can live and work, and help decarbonise mobility, aiming for safety‑focused, sustainable and innovative leadership in Australia.

The Role

Following a company-wide consolidation and vision realignment, the Board and CEO have identified the need for a hands-on Financial Controller to join the business.

Key responsibilities:

• Reporting to the CEO / Founder and managing a Junior Accountant
• Management of all monthly management reporting and statutory compliance
• Leading the budgeting and management accounting, FP&A, tax, governance and compliance
• Ownership of the day‑to‑day financial operations (AP/AR, payroll, banking)
• Manage BAS, PAYG, payroll tax (multi‑state), company tax/ITR & RDTI coordination
• Lead audit & Grant financial management, overhead control and cost optimisation
• Implement and champion finance automation, AI tools and scalable controls
• Provide timely management accounting to inform strategic decisions

Your Background

• CA / CPA qualified
• Strong hands-on experience (not shy to roll up your sleeves)  
• Proven Financial Controller/Senior Financial Accountant experience in growing/complex organisations
• Strong internal controls and governance experience; proven people leadership
• Experience preparing BAS, payroll tax, income tax and RDTI
• Exposure to XERO and ApprovalMax would be very useful
