Accountant - Financial Services

Company Background

Our client is an established and reputable financial services business with a global presence. Locally, they are a medium-sized organisation with a fast-expanding footprint across the country.

Led by a talented and charismatic Head of Finance, the team is welcoming, collaborative and professional. They support a combination of working from home (approx. 3-4 days a week) and in the office, and enjoy a great team culture.

Having been acquired by an overseas parent, our client is significantly growing their market share in Australia. As the successful applicant, you will join this organisation at an exciting time and will enjoy fascinating exposure to the integration project work whilst also taking on a broad accounting remit.

The Role

In your role as an Accountant, you will be reporting to the Finance Manager, who will provide mentorship and develop opportunities. Your role will encompass an appealing mix of technical accounting, monthly reporting, ad-hoc system integration projects and technical insurance accounting. Your duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Maintain accurate and timely records of insurance transactions, including premiums, claims, and reinsurance.
  • Support month-end close processes, with a focus on insurance and technical accounting activities.
  • Assist in the testing and implementation of a new accounting system, ensuring alignment with APRA and IFRS 17 requirements.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process optimisation.
  • Provide support for internal and external audit requirements, ensuring compliance and documentation accuracy.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy.

Your Background

To be considered for this Accountant role, you will have the following skills & attributes:

  • CA/CPA qualification (or almost completed) or similar.
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Proven prior financial accounting skills (including hands-on experience in financial reporting).
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-focused attitude and collaborative, positive working style.
