Gain excellent exposure across the business

Company Background

A well-established, privately owned professional services firm is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the existing Finance team. This role offers genuine variety across reporting, reconciliations, payables and compliance, and will suit someone who takes initiative and enjoys improving processes.

With ongoing growth and increasing complexity across the Finance function, this Assistant Accountant position has been introduced to add capacity and support succession planning within the team. You’ll report to an experienced finance leadership team who know the business inside out and are committed to developing you to your full potential.

Position Description

This is far from a traditional AP/AR-focused role, instead offering broad exposure to higher-level accounting responsibilities, valuable commercial insights, and genuine learning opportunities at every stage of your development.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with monthly profit & loss and balance sheet reporting
  • Collecting and analysing data for weekly/monthly estimates
  • Assisting with KPI reporting and analysis
  • Bank and ledger reconciliations; maintaining accurate financial records
  • Processing invoices and tracking purchase orders, statements and payments
  • Preparing weekly payables and supporting accounts payable; responding to supplier queries
  • Assisting with statutory, consolidated and year-end accounts
  • Supporting internal and external audits and general financial enquiries
  • Assisting with BAS / Instalment Activity Statements across multiple entities
  • Assisting with FBT return preparation
  • Contributing to systems/process improvements (including an upcoming system change)

About You

To be considered for this position, you will meet most of the following requirements:

  • Accounting degree qualification (whilst a CA / CPA would be preferred, it’s not essential)
  • Experience in multi-entity environments will be held in high regard
  • Proactive and able to work autonomously in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong attention to detail and professional communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn, with a methodical and considered approach to tasks
