Lead Tax Across Property

Company Background

Our client has been operating in Australia for over 20 years, delivering high-end residential and commercial projects across the Sydney basin. All up, they have successfully completed billions of dollars’ worth of residential, commercial, retail, industrial, medical and club developments and earned a reputation for delivering high-quality property developments. The Finance team is seven people strong, which will give you a broad, all-round exposure to the business

The Role

This role is primarily tax-focused, with responsibility for managing all direct and indirect tax obligations across multiple group entities. You will act as the internal tax lead, advising senior stakeholders on structuring, transactions, and compliance risk, while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

Working closely with the Financial Controller and CFO, you will play a key role in strengthening tax governance, managing risk, and improving processes across the group.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax (Primary Focus)

  • Lead and manage all group tax compliance, including income tax, GST, FBT and payroll tax
  • Oversee tax effect accounting and ensure accurate tax disclosures in financial statements
  • Manage Division 7A compliance and related party transactions
  • Advise on tax implications of acquisitions, disposals, restructures and property transactions
  • Review and implement tax-effective structures across the group
  • Develop and maintain tax compliance policies and governance frameworks
  • Liaise directly with the ATO, external tax advisors and auditors
  • Monitor legislative changes and proactively assess impacts on the business
  • Identify tax risks and opportunities, providing commercially sound recommendations to leadership

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee review of statutory financial statements (prepared by the Controlling team)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity

Your Background

Ideally, for this role, our client is considering two options:

  • Tax Manager or Senior Tax Accountant with a strong Property / Construction background or
  • First-time mover Big 4 or 2nd Tier Tax / Business Services
