Temporary Senior Payroll Opportunity

The Company

Our client is a professional services company operating in the healthcare sector, with a presence across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The organisation supports public and private healthcare clients through a broad range of workforce and operational services.

Based in Sydney CBD, the business offers a hybrid work from home arrangement, typically split between three days in the office and two days from home. You will join a finance function and work closely with finance leadership and a collaborative onshore and offshore payroll team.

The Role

Following a recent system implementation, the team requires an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to provide immediate support through testing and early-stage process issues. You will most likely take ownership of business-as-usual payroll while the Payroll Manager addresses historical matters, although there may also be scope to contribute directly to the remediation project.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Managing accurate, high-volume BAU payroll across daily, weekly and monthly cycles for a diverse workforce

  • Interpreting and applying complex awards, enterprise arrangements and state- or site-specific rules

  • Supporting two onshore Payroll Officers and coordinating with an offshore payroll team

  • Resolving payroll and timesheet queries promptly, including speaking directly with employees and stakeholders where required

  • Completing payroll tax and workers compensation reporting

  • Investigating and correcting payroll issues arising from the recent system change

  • Maintaining and updating rate cards across multiple states and client sites

  • Working across Salesforce with exposure to upcoming digital timesheet improvements

Your Background

To be considered for this Senior Payroll Officer opportunity, you will bring:

  • Immediate availability and demonstrated experience managing complex, high-volume payroll

  • Strong award interpretation skills; experience with complex awards and enterprise arrangements will be highly regarded

  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to move between BAU processing and project support

  • Confidence resolving queries, investigating timesheet issues and communicating directly by phone

  • A proactive, direct and personable working style suited to a fast-paced professional services environment

  • Experience with Xero, Salesforce or 2cloud9 is advantageous

This is an initial 4–6 month temporary assignment with potential longer-term opportunity.
