Head of Finance and Operations - Property

Our client is a well-established not-for-profit provider of premium student accommodation, located on a historic inner-city campus. The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO equivalent and working as a key member of the executive leadership team, this role offers genuine breadth and influence across finance, governance and operations. With one direct report and close collaboration across the wider team, your remit will cover everything from end-to-end financial management and reporting, to oversight of risk, compliance, capital works, WHS, and administration. You'll be a key voice in strategic decision-making and help ensure the organisation continues to meet the expectations of its residents, staff, board and wider stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, reporting and payroll in a small but well-run environment
  • Manage compliance, contracts, insurance, and company secretarial responsibilities
  • Support HR, WHS, and facilities planning, including oversight of external suppliers
  • Guide business planning, capital works and operational decision-making
  • Act as Council Secretary and ensure sound governance processes and documentation

Your Background

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

  • CA or CPA qualification and proven financial leadership experience
  • Broad exposure to operational areas such as payroll, HR, WHS and administration
  • A solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail and continuous improvement
  • The ability to engage confidently with a diverse range of stakeholders, including board members, staff and residents
  • A warm and grounded communication style, with a collaborative, team-first mindset
  • Alignment with the organisation’s values and a genuine interest in contributing to a mission-led environment
  • Experience in not-for-profit, residential, hospitality, or property-related settings will be highly regarded, though not essential
