Lead Finance for a Major National Construction Group

Company Background

Richard Lloyd has been exclusively retained to source a Head of Finance for a tier one construction company. They have a significant presence across Australia with continuing expansion overseas. Known for delivering high-quality, large-scale, major projects and operating with a long-term, sustainable approach, the business is continuing to expand its portfolio.

As part of this growth, they are seeking an accomplished Head of Finance to join the team and take ownership of the Australian financial operations. You will join a highly professional, collaborative environment where excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement are part of the culture.

The Role

As the Head of Finance for Australia, you will take ownership for financial management, stakeholder management, treasury operations and reporting frameworks across the Australian business. Your focus will be ensuring accuracy, compliance and robust controls, while providing commercial insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.

Reporting into a talented and supportive CFO, your key responsibilities will include (not limited to):

• Oversight of four direct local reports (and support of an offshore team)
• Deliver monthly and annual reporting packages outlining results, trends, forecasts and overall financial position
• Prepare monthly board reports and additional required analysis
• Preparation and regular review of the budget
• Stakeholder management. Manage monthly forecasting updates in collaboration with Department Leaders
• Partner with Project Managers to ensure they understand financial reporting, forecasting expectations and compliance requirements
• Monthly site meetings
• Oversee quality control across all financial transactions and reporting
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal reporting and tax obligations
• Continuously review financial plans and budgets
• Continuously develop and implement systems and process improvements
• Oversee finance, treasury and risk management activities including reporting against KPIs, business deliverables and cost projections
• Supervise audit activities
• Manage cash flow, monitor transactions and review internal financial reports
• Maintain strong relationships with banks, surety providers etc.

Your Background

In order to be considered for this Head of Finance opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

• You are an experienced finance professional with a strong track record operating as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance or equivalent
• Experience working in a mid-tier to large construction business (or highly relatable) is a pre-requisite
• Proven experience of delivering commercially focused financial outcomes
• Collaborative leadership style having managed high performance teams previously
• Maintain a positive outlook and show consistency in behaviour with all team members
• Confidence and ability to effectively liaise with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally
• Professionally qualified as an Accountant (e.g. CA, ACA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent)
