Finance Manager - Professional Services

Company Background

Our client is a highly regarded professional services firm that operates in a regulated environment. They have established long-term relationships with a diverse range of corporate and private clients through their accuracy, responsiveness, and practical approach.

With growth continuing and operations becoming more complex, they are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to take full ownership of the finance function. You’ll work closely with the firm’s leadership and play a key role in ensuring the finance operations run smoothly day-to-day while supporting long-term business objectives.

The firm offers a supportive and professional culture with hybrid working, modern CBD offices, and strong leadership that values accountability and collaboration.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Partner, this standalone, hands-on Finance Manager role covers all aspects of accounting, reporting, and compliance. You’ll manage everything from daily transactions through to board-level reporting, providing both accuracy and insight.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing end-to-end accounting, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • Overseeing trust accounting, compliance, and reconciliations
  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, and monthly management reports
  • Monitoring WIP, billings, and collections, and following up where required
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders to support financial decisions
  • Liaising with external accountants for statutory and tax compliance
  • Streamlining processes to drive accuracy and efficiency
  • Managing Payroll

Your Background

To be successful in this Finance Manager role, you will ideally have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a broad accounting role within legal, professional services, or a similar project-based environment
  • Strong understanding of trust accounting and compliance
  • Proven experience across reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow
  • High attention to detail and confidence to manage billing and collections
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with partners
  • A hands-on, self-motivated approach and comfort operating in a standalone role
  • Proficiency with Xero, and ideally ActionStep (or similar systems)
  • CA or CPA qualification preferred, but not essential
