Commercial Projects & Growth Path

Company Background

Our client is a well-established, privately owned business with an excellent reputation across the commercial construction and renewables sector.

With a proven track record of strong year-on-year growth, the business is entering an exciting phase of expansion, creating an opportunity for a motivated finance professional to join in a newly created role with genuine long-term career progression.

Operating across project-based services with a mix of office and operational stakeholders, this role will see you partnering closely with Project Managers and the broader business to support the day-to-day finance function, ensure processes and procedures are running effectively, and contribute to ongoing operational improvements.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will have the opportunity to grow both your skillset and career over time. You will become a key finance contact across the business, with a genuine pathway into a Finance Manager position as the company continues to evolve and expand.

This is a rare opportunity that can be either part-time (24 hours a week minimum) or full-time. Full-time candidates will also have the opportunity to become involved in broader operational and project support responsibilities.

The business prides itself on its collaborative, down-to-earth culture and fast-paced environment. You will join a lively and supportive team that is passionate about what they do and values flexibility, accountability, and teamwork.

The Role

Your role as an Accountant will play a key position in the company and will include a wide variety of duties. Key initial duties include (yet, certainly not limited to):

  • Manage high-volume accounts payable processing across multiple entities, including supplier invoices, employee expenses, and reconciliations
  • Take end-to-end ownership of smaller company entities, managing the day-to-day finance function and reporting requirements
  • Monitor and manage the group finance inbox, ensuring invoices and queries are actioned in a timely manner
  • Allocate costs and invoices accurately across projects and entities, ensuring correct coding and project tracking
  • Work across multiple systems, including Simpro and Xero, to process transactions, maintain records, and generate reports
  • Partner closely with Project Managers to follow up on purchase orders, approvals, and project-related cost allocations
  • Assist with payroll processing, month-end close activities, reporting, and broader finance administration tasks
  • Prepare and run project and financial reports through Simpro to support operational decision-making
  • Support the Financial Controller with process improvements, operational efficiencies, and ad hoc finance projects
  • Gradually take on increased responsibility across the finance function with a clear succession pathway into a Finance Manager role
  • Contribute to the future growth of the finance team, with the opportunity to eventually mentor and manage junior staff as the business expands

As you become more confident with your duties, the Financial Controller will look to expand your remit, ensuring continuous improvement and opportunity to move into a Finance Manager title.

Your Background

To be considered for this Accountant role, you will have experience in a broad accounting position and should meet the majority of the following:

  • Experience in transactional-level accounting
  • Strong Excel skills and an inquisitive ‘continuous improvement’ mindset
  • Confident communicator and able to work with a variety of stakeholder styles
  • Hands-on, practical mindset and comfortable with ‘rolling up sleeves’ while processes and systems continue to improve.

Our client is open to tailoring the role around the successful candidate’s experience and strengths, so if this opportunity resonates with you but you’re unsure if you tick every box, please feel free to reach out for a confidential discussion.
