​Our client is a small firm with long relationships with many of their clients. They provide a full range of services, and have an excellent name in the market.

They are still growing the digital revenue streams of the business and would want this role to work closely with the MD and client services on maximising profitability.

The Role

The Financial Controller Role is expected to be the trusted financial advisor to the Directors and COO on new business case feasibility, financial decision making and the day to day running of finance.

General responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight of the month end process including ensuring the completion of the General Ledger and Balance Sheet reconciliations and production of the P&L statements

  • Completion of the commentary around variance to budget

  • Submitting taxation returns such as BAS, FBT, GST and liaison with external tax specialists

  • Review the Revenue Accountants work and assist with WIP and revenue analysis on jobs

  • Client profitability reporting

  • Managing the small finance team

  • Systems and workflow projects to ensure everything works smoothly and creates the best transparency in the numbers

Your Background

We are looking for candidates with strong backgrounds in the media/advertising sector. This is key. Currently you will be an SME Financial Controller, or perhaps a divisional Finance Manager in a larger agency.

You will need to have managed at least 2 staff, and truly enjoy leading and motivating a team.

Candidates who can be credible and confident going through the numbers with the Directors, and able to provide insightful commentary around the numbers will be most highly regarded.

As well as the fancy top end stuff, you will have to be happy to roll up your sleeves and help out with any transactional duties that might be required. Its ‘all hands-on deck’ to achieve results!
